India restrict South Africa to 265 in Kanpur

(CNN) -- India fought back on the first day of the third and final Test in Kanpur to dismiss South Africa for 265 by the close of play.

South Africa, who lead the series 1-0 after a crushing win in Ahmedabad, made a strong start and were 152 for one before a clatter of wickets late in the day.

Young paceman Ishant Sharma, who missed the opening two Tests due to injury, and spinner Harbahjan Singh did the damage with three wickets apiece after skipper Graeme Smith (69) and Hashim Amla (51) had boosted South Africa.

The 19-year-old Sharma took the key wickets of Amla and Mark Boucher to finish with 3-55. while Harbhajan took 3-52.

Piyush Chawla, a 19-year-old leg-spinner playing only his second Test since his debut in 2006, finished with 2-66, while part-time spinners Virender Sehwag and Yuvraj Singh also took a wicket each.

Chawla came into the side as a replacement for captain Anil Kumble who was forced out by a groin injury.

South Africa, who won the toss and batted, saw Smith putting on 61 for the opening wicket with Neil McKenzie (36) and 91 for the next with Amla, but lost proceeded to lose three wickets for just nine runs.

A key moment came as the prolific Jacques Kallas played on to Harbhajan, the ball coming back to hit his stumps via his pad and glove.

In other cricket news on Friday, Cardiff have been awarded a Test match for the first time, with the Welsh capital hosting the first Test of the eagerly-awaited 2009 Ashes series between England and Australia.

Sofia Gardens will make its debut as a Test venue on July 8 with the rest of the five-match series at Lord's (July 20), Edgbaston (July 30), Headingley (August 7) and The Oval (August 20). E-mail to a friend E-mail to a friend
