LE MANS, France -- MotoGP Championship leader Dani Pedrosa will start the French round from pole position after topping the qualifying times at Le Mans.

Pedrosa prepares for his qualifying lap at Le Mans on Saturday.

The Repsol Honda rider, who holds a seven-point lead over Fiat Yamaha's Jorge Lorenzo in the standings, set a fastest time of one minute 32.647 seconds in the qualifying session.

The Spaniard will be joined on the front row by American Colin Edwards, on the Tech 3 Yamaha, and Australia's defending champion Casey Stoner on the Marlboro Ducati.

Former champion Valentino Rossi was fourth quickest on the Fiat Yamaha and the Italian will be joined on the second row by team-mate Lorenzo.

The Spaniard, riding despite badly injured ankles, recovered from a crash on Friday to set the fifth fastest time ahead of American Nicky Hayden on the second Repsol Honda.

Britain's reigning World Superbike champion James Toseland, who was well down the timesheets on Friday, bounced back to set the seventh best time on the Tech 3 Yamaha.
