CNN -- The Olympic Games is the undoubted high-point in an athlete's career, with the chance to prove themselves on the biggest stage and against the best in the world.

Leading up to this year's event in August, athletes from different sports and with different expectations will be blogging on CNN.com, giving their unique insight into the world's greatest sporting event.

Gilbert Tuhabonye is a marathon runner who escaped the ethnic violence of Burundi to find a new life in the U.S. As well as coaching athletics he has been trying to fulfill his dream of competing at the Olympics, overcoming injuries and set-backs along the way. Read his latest blog.

Claudia Rivero is Peru's top-ranked badminton player and will be a member of one of the smallest national squads going to Beijing. Based in Germany she received an Olympic scholarship. This will be her first Olympic Games. Read her latest blog.
