(CNN) -- England were closing fast on a comfortable win over New Zealand by the close of the third day's play in the third Test at Trent Bridge.
New Zealand, following-on, were 177 for five -- still 64 runs adrift as England look set to claim the series 2-0 after their win at Old Trafford.
England might have closed out victory two days early but for a fourth wicket stand of 94 between Brendon McCullum (71) and Daniel Flynn (49).
But paceman James Anderson, who took seven wickets in the first innings as New Zealand were hustled out for 123 early on Saturday morning, broke the stand when he bowled McCullum for the second time in the match.
Flynn then departed, one short of his maiden Test half-century, as he edged Ryan Sidebottom to Tim Ambrose behind the stumps.
Stuart Broad, on his Nottinghamshire home ground, began another New Zealand collapse when he had Aaron Redmond caught behind as the tourists followed on.
Broad had earlier taken two wickets in three balls to help wrap up the New Zealand first innings.
Sidebottom had fellow Redmond's fellow opener Jamie How caught at third slip by Alastair Cook for 19 and Ross Taylor was trapped leg before wicket by the excellent Broad, who struck a career-best 64 in England's first innings of 364.
Then came a plucky stand between McCullum and Flynn, but their departure effectively ends New Zealand's hopes.
