(CNN) -- Roman Kreuziger of the Czech Republic claimed overall victory in the Tour of Switzerland on Sunday as home hero Fabian Cancellara won his second stage of the nine-day race.
Kreuziger claimed the yellow jersey with a brilliant time trial on Saturday.
Liquigas rider Kreuziger held a 49-second lead over Andreas Kloeden of Germany (Astana) going into the final stage over 168-kilometers from Altdorf to the Swiss capital of Berne.
CSC star Cancellara fittingly won in his home town, catching Philippe Gilbert of Belgium about 200 meters from the finish.
Gilbert had the same time in second place and Daniel Moreno of Spain was four seconds back in third.
The 22-year-old Kreuziger is the youngest winner of the Tour of Switzerland in its 72nd running.
The former world junior champion showed his pedigree with an impressive victory in the 25-kilometer mountain time trial on Saturday and comfortably held off his nearest challengers on the final day.
Kloeden, riding on his 33rd birthday, remained 49 seconds behind to finish second overall, with Igor Anton of Spain in third.
Maxim Iglinskiy of Kazakhstan was the best climber after sprinting to collect points in the final ascent of the race.
Cancellara showed he is in fine form ahead of the Tour de France as he added to his victory on Friday at Lyss and once again caught the pure sprinters napping at the finish.
