(CNN) -- Sweden's Christian Olsson will be unable to defend his Olympic triple jump crown in Beijing after he pulled out of the Games with a hamstring injury.

Olsson's latest comeback after injury ended in bitter disappointment in Stockholm.
Olsson, also a former world champion, was making his comeback to competition after a long layoff, performing in front of his home fans at the DN Galan meeting in Stockholm when he sustained his latest injury.
He finished third with a respectable jump of 17 meters in the second round, but on his fourth attempt broke down.
Olsson told Swedish radio "there is no chance" of him competing in the Olympics. "I will have to sit down and think about whether it's even worth continuing my career," he said.
The 28-year-old has been plagued by injury since winning his gold medal in Athens.
He came back in 2006 and won the gold medal at the European Championships in his hometown of Gothenburg, before injury struck once again.
In his absence, Britain's world-leading jumper Phillips Idowu is warm favorite for triple jump gold in China next month.
