COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) -- Danish cyclist Michael Rasmussen plans to appeal against a ruling by a Dutch court ordering his former employer to pay him $1 million in compensation for his dismissal last year.

Dane Rasmussen was awarded $1 million by a Dutch court on July 2.
Rasmussen told Danish news agency Ritzau on Friday that he would challenge the July 2 ruling by the court in Utrecht, which fell far short of the $8.5 million he had demanded in compensation from Dutch team Rabobank.
Rasmussen was ousted from last year's Tour de France by Rabobank amid doping suspicions.
The Dane was leading the Tour and was a near certainty to win when he was fired for telling the International Cycling Union (UCI) he was in Mexico before the race when he was actually in Italy and France.
He has admitted lying about his whereabouts to the UCI, but insists his team knew where he was.
The 34-year-old Rasmussen also has appealed the two-year racing ban by the Monaco cycling federation that issued his pro license.
