LONDON, England (CNN) -- Heikki Kovalainen insists that his maiden win in the Hungarian Grand Prix is the first of many.
Heikki Kovalainen celebrates winning his maiden F1 grand prix in Hungary -- and immediately vowed to make winning a habit.
The McLaren driver claimed victory after title rivals Felipe Massa and Lewis Hamilton encountered problems during the race.
But the Finn, who last year drove as a rookie for Renault, is now focused on upping his game after spending the first half of his season with McLaren trailing Hamilton home.
He said: "I think there is still a lot of work to be done and the next target has to be to do all these results consistently. There's no particular area that I want to improve, we just try to work on every area, little-by-little.
"I think as a driver I'm certainly better compared to last year. I have improved my driving technique, I have improved the whole package.
"The engineers are giving me feedback and I'm fitter compared to last year as well. I think there is a lot more to come."
If Kovalainen's win was surprising then Timo Glock's second place was even more unpredictable.
This season the German has finished in the points just once -- taking fourth in Canada -- in a Toyota that has often struggled for speed.
But two weeks after being taken away from his home grand prix in an ambulance, Glock qualified fifth and brought the car home for his maiden podium visit.
"I didn't expect a podium and I think the circumstances with Felipe helped out a bit, then with Lewis as well," he said.
"But you have to be there at that moment and you have to have the speed as well.
"I think in qualifying we could have been one or two places further up the grid, but we finished on the podium and it's just a perfect weekend -- completely unexpected."
For third-placed Kimi Raikkonen, it was another weekend of missed opportunities after qualifying sixth in his Ferrari.
It took him the bulk of the race to get past a dogged Fernando Alonso before he showed his speed by setting the fastest lap.
"We have the speed in the race but if I can't get the qualifying right we are going to end up every race in the same situation. We need to sort it out.
"The guys did a good job but we just need to fix a few problems and for sure we can be back in the hunt for wins."
