LONDON, England (CNN) -- Great Britain and Italy have qualified for the women's International Sailing Federation (ISAF) Nations Cup match racing grand final in Brazil next March.

Reigning European champion Lucy MacGregor and world number six Sabrina Gurioli were victorious at the latest regional final in France to qualify their nations for the major event.

Light winds and large waves during the French regional final made for tough conditions for the seven competing teams from Great Britain, Italy, Denmark, Portugal, Germany, Spain and the Netherlands.

However, after a series of round-robins and finals across two pools, the British and Italian competitors progressed.

The ISAF Nations Cup now moves to Mumbai, India for the Asian regional final.

Brazil, France, Portugal and New Zealand have already qualified for next year's world final of the open event, while in the women's section France and Australia join Great Britain, Italy and hosts Brazil as the nations to qualify so far.

The most recent Nations Cup was held in 2006 when France claimed both the men's and women's titles.
