(CNN) -- Japanese Formula One driver Takuma Sato will test again with the Toro Rosso team at Jerez in Spain next week, raising expectations that the 31-year-old will secure a drive for the 2009 championship.

Sato has been without a drive since the Super Aguri team folded earlier this year.

"Takuma has been recalled by Toro Rosso to test at Jerez, Spain, on December 10 and 11," said his commercial manager Matthew Winter. "We obviously see this as a positive step but still nothing is decided for the 2009 racing season."

The test in Spain will be Sato's third with the team -- who secured their first win when Sebastian Vettel triumphed at Monza last season. Vettel has switched to parent team Red Bull for 2009.

Swiss rookie Sebastien Buemi is the favorite to replace Vettel, with Sato and Frenchman Sebastien Bourdais believed to be the most likely candidates for the second seat.
