(CNN) -- Tanja Poutiainen of Finland won the World Cup giant slalom in La Molina, Spain on Saturday to take the lead in the overall standings.
Finn Poutiainen was delighted to claim the lead in the overall World Cup standings.
Poutiainen, who was claiming her eighth World Cup win, edged out Manuela Moelgg of Italy by two hundredths of a second, with Nicole Hosp of Austraia in third place.
Kathrin Zettel of Austria, who led after the first run, saw her chances disappear when she caught an edge and crashed out second time down.
"For sure, I wouldn't like to win like this, that someone who goes out while leading," Poutiainen told Associated Press. "But this is skiing and you make mistakes. A victory is victory."
The 28-year-old Finn recorded the fastest second run of one minute 9.02 seconds down the Cerdanya Catalunya course as she attempted to make up a first run deficit on Zettel.
It gave her a combined time of two minutes 16.76 seconds, but Zettel looked on course for her fourth giant slalom win and second of the campaign when she wiped out.
Poutiainen stayed top of the overall giant slalom standings with 260 points and overtook American Lindsey Vonn in the overall race with 360 points -- two more than Vonn, the defending overall champion.
Vonn went out after going off course in the first run, but will attempt to regain the overall lead in Sunday's giant slalom.
