(CNN) -- Swiss Daniel Albrecht claimed the fourth success of his career on Sunday when he won the men's World Cup giant slalom at Alta Badia, Italy.

Swiss Daniel Albrecht claimed the fourth success of his career when he won Sunday's giant slalom in Italy.
Albrecht, who also took the season opener in Austria, clocked two minutes 32.71 seconds -- 00.12 secs clear of second-placed Ivica Kostelic of Croatia. Hannes Reichelt of Austria was third 00.33 secs back.
Compatriot Didier Cuche led the way after the first leg with Albrecht tucked in behind in second place and Ted Ligety of the United States in third.
Cuche struggled on the second leg falling back to fifth overall, while Kostelic, the brother of the now-retired Janica Kostelic, moved up 10 places and Reichelt 11.
"It's always special to win here as it is one of the classics even if the conditions were not great with the rising temperatures making it too heavy," said Albrecht.
"My decision not to take part in the downhill at Val Gardena yesterday has paid off. Today you saw the real Daniel Albrecht."
Norway's Aksel Lund Svindal retained the overall World Cup lead despite only coming eighth equal alongside Massimiliano Blardone of Italy.
A women's World Cup downhill race at St. Moritz was canceled Sunday because of high winds on Switzerland's Corviglia piste and will be rescheduled later in the season.
Only one women's downhill has been raced this season of the three scheduled to date. It was won by defending World Cup downhill champion Lindsey Vonn at Lake Louise, Alberta.
