LIVERPOOL, England -- England international Joey Barton had his bail extended until March when he appeared in court on Wednesday over allegations of assault and affray.

Barton has not entered a plea to charges of affray and assault occasioning bodily harm.
The Newcastle midfielder was arrested in the early hours of December 27, after an evening out with friends and family.
During the proceedings at Liverpool Magistrates' Court Barton was bailed and will reappear on March 12.
Barton, who was only granted bail earlier this month after a second appeal, has not issued a plea to charges of affray and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
Barton's brother, Andrew Barton, 19, from Widnes, has also been charged with actual bodily harm after he, Barton and Nadine Wilson, 27, from Huyton, were arrested after visiting a McDonald's restaurant in Liverpool city center on the 27th.
A charge of affray against Andrew Barton was dropped on Wednesday. All three will return to the court in March. E-mail to a friend ![]()
