ACCRA, Ghana -- Sulley Muntari gave hosts Ghana a winning start to the African Nations Cup when he scored in the last minute to give them a 2-1 victory over Guinea in Accra.

Muntari sent the Ghana fans wild with his spectacular late winner.
The Portsmouth midfielder delighted the crowd of 44,000 with a long range, left foot angled shot past Kemoko Camara.
There was no score in the first period but Ghana hit the woodwork three times and had a goal disallowed.
Ghana's deserved breakthrough came eight minutes into the second half when Junior Agogo was brought down by Oumar Kalabane in the penalty area and Asamoah Gyan, who had netted Ghana's disallowed effort, fired the spot kick high into the net.
The cheering home supporters were silenced in the 65th minute when Kalabane atoned for his earlier misdemeanor by heading the equalizer. Birmingham City keeper Richard Kingston fumbled the effort over the line.
Ghana, bidding for a record-equaling fifth title, brought on Andre Ayew, whose first kick forced a brilliant save from Camara.
But the hosts were not to be denied and Muntari's late strike produced joyous scenes at the Ohene Djan Stadium. E-mail to a friend ![]()
