PARIS, France -- Mamadou Niang returned from a disappointing African Nations Cup with Senegal to score the first goal in Marseille's 2-0 victory at Nice.

Niang, whose team went out in the group stages in Ghana, tapped home during a dominant first half by Marseille.
Nice exerted plenty of pressure in the second period of the derby but after 75 minutes Djibril Cisse fired in a second for Marseille.
The win was only Marseille's ninth in 23 outings but they now lie seventh in the table with hopes of a European spot.
Lens continued their winter revival, after early disappointments under new coach Jean-Pierre Papin, by winning 4-1 at Caen.
Toifilou Maoulida put Lens in front in 16 seconds and they went 2-0 up in the 33rd minute when Senegalese midfielder Kader Mangane headed home from a pass by Olivier Monterrubio.
Caen, eighth in the table but trounced 6-1 by Marseille recently, conceded a third in the 67th minute when on-loan Lyon striker Lois Remy struck.
Two minutes later midfielder Gregory Proment fired home a free kick for Caen but home defender Nicolas Seube beat his own keeper in the 75th minute.
Caen coach Franck Dumas has refused to speak to the media until the end of the season, leaving that task to club president Jean-Francois Fortin, who said: "I saw some good things out there, but a lot more determination from Lens."
Lens, with 11 goals from their past four outings, are now showing a greater appetite..
"The players are hungry, and the forwards finally showed what they are capable of. We wanted to go out there and show it," said Papin. E-mail to a friend ![]()
