LYON, France -- Lyon shrugged off their midweek Champions League disappointment by taking a big step towards a seventh consecutive French league title on Sunday.

Mathieu Bodmer set Lyon on course for victory with two goals in the first half against Bordeaux.
Alain Perrin's leaders, knocked out of Europe's premier tournament by Manchester United, moved six points clear after beating second-placed Bordeaux 4-2 at home.
Mathieu Bodmer gave the hosts the perfect start, scoring the opener from Fabio Grosso's cross after 12 minutes and then adding another on 24.
Bordeaux hit back 10 minutes later as Brazilian midfielder Wendel floated a freekick past goalkeeper Gregory Coupet, but top scorer Karim Benzema put Lyon 3-1 ahead five minutes after half-time following a neat interchange with Fred.
The visitors again reduced the deficit when Fernando Cavenaghi fired in a penalty after Mathieu Chalme was fouled, despite Coupet getting a hand on the ball.
Wendel was carried off after a harsh challenge by Anthony Reveillere before Coupet did well to keep out an Alou Diarra header, then Abdul Kader Keita slotted home a close-range shot in the fourth minute of injury-time.
Earlier on Sunday, Marseille kept alive their hopes of European qualification by consolidating fourth place with a 2-0 victory at home to Saint Etienne.
Second-half substitute Mathieu Valbuena pounced after a lapse by the visitors' defense to lob goalkeeper Jody Viviani in the 59th minute.
Taye Taiwo headed in Benoit Cheyrou's free-kick seven minutes later to leave Marseille three points adrift of third-placed Nancy. E-mail to a friend ![]()
