BERLIN, Germany -- Branko Jelic scored twice as bottom club Energie Cottbus produced a stunning upset to beat Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich 2-0 on Saturday.

Branko Jelic celebrates his two-goal performance in a massive shock in the Bundesliga.

Cottbus, who move out of the relegation places and into 15th with the victory, took the lead after 18 minutes as Jelic scored with a fierce shot.

In the 28th, Bayern's Franck Ribery missed a great chance to level as his penalty kick was blocked by home goalkeeper Gerhard Tremmel, the first he had failed to convert this season.

And the home side duly extended their lead just seven minutes before the break when Serbian star Jelic struck again.

It was only the second league defeat of the season for Bayern, who are still five points clear of second-placed SV Hamburg, but the second in a week after a home loss to Anderlecht in the UEFA Cup, although going through on aggregate.

"We had an infamously bad day," Bayern coach Ottmar Hitzfeld said.

"We lost every tackle in the first 10 minutes. It's very possible the players dreamed they had the title wrapped up -- our concentration was missing."

Hamburg scored a fine 1-0 win at Borussia Dortmund with a second half goal from Peruvian international Jose Paolo Guerrero.

Werder Bremen can leapfrog Hamburg and move to within four points of Bayern with a victory over Vfl Wolfsburg on Sunday when fourth-placed Bayer Leverkusen are at home to Nuremberg.

On Friday night, Schalke 04, who play Barcelona in the Champions League quarterfinals, stayed in the title hunt with a 2-1 win over Duisburg to stay fifth. E-mail to a friend E-mail to a friend
