LONDON, England -- Brian McBride's first goal since August gave Fulham their second league win in 18 games and dented Everton's hopes of a top-four finish in the English Premier League on Sunday.

McBride ended a seven-month goal drought with his 67th minute winner.

It was a priceless victory for Fulham, moving them to within three points of safety, but Everton, who had been unbeaten in the league in 2008, now trail fourth-placed neighbors Liverpool by three.

Emile Heskey also scored his first league goal since August to give Wigan a 1-0 win against Bolton, even though they played for 86 minutes with 10 men.

Manchester City came from behind to beat Tottenham 2-1 at the City of Manchester Stadium.

McBride said: "It's pleasing to score but most importantly we got the win we needed," McBride added. "The back four were so strong and we had the right attitude from the beginning. We need to continue that.

"We believe we can stay up so let's hope we do."

Fulham opened well with Jimmy Bullard trying a long-range shot and McBride flashing a volley just wide.

Everton suffered a setback when England striker Andrew Johnson went off with a groin injury, making way for Tony Hibbert.

Everton striker Ayegbeni Yakubu, scorer of a hat-trick against Fulham in December, tested Fulham goalkeeper Kasey Keller just before half-time after Steven Pienaar and Phil Neville combined well on the right wing.

Play became scrappy but in the 67th minute Fulham made the breakthrough when Joseph Yobo failed to clear Davies' center and McBride headed home past Tim Howard.

Yobo had a quick opportunity to atone for his error moments later but Headed wide from close in and Fulham should have increased their lead after 82 minutes.

Davies had only Howard to beat but chipped his effort wide.

Nedum Onuoha's first goal for Manchester City clinched a 2-1 win over Tottenham.

City ended a run of one win in eight matches with a stirring second half revival..

Trailing to Robbie Keane's sublime first-half strike, Sven Goran Eriksson's men benefited from a fortunate offside decision to equalize through Stephen Ireland before Onuoha headed the winner.

The young defender, who had gone 66 games without scoring, said: "It's taken me four years to score and this was a good game to do it because some people have been getting on our backs.

"I'd like to think this will give us more confidence. It's the run-in now and hopefully we can pick up as many points as possible to be there or thereabouts."

Emile Heskey's first-half strike was enough to give Wigan an important victory despite the fourth minute dismissal of Jason Koumas.

Wigan went six points clear of third bottom Bolton, after a run of one defeat in their last six matches.

Bolton are back in trouble after a fourth successive defeat. Their manager Gary Megson made nine changes to the side beaten by Sporting Lisbon in midweek but his policy of resting so many players in Portugal did not pay off.

Wales midfielder Koumas caught Bolton defender Gary Cahill with a studs-up challenge and although the contact was minimal referee Steve Tanner was prompt in producing the red card.

Heskey struck in the 34th minute, volleying home Mario Melchiot's cross from eight yards. E-mail to a friend E-mail to a friend
