AS Roma staged a late rally to win 3-1 at Udinese and hang on to second place.

Esteban Cambiasso took a simple chance in the 55th minute to put Inter ahead after Patrick Vieira supplied the pass..

Mario Balotelli made it 2-0 in the 62nd minute with his second goal in Serie A after scoring his first last week.

Balotelli made his second straight start as Zlatan Ibrahimovic is still out injured..

Francesco Totti was back in the Roma line-up after an injury absence and quickly made his presence felt.

There were few chances in the first period and when the breakthrough came, in the 52nd minute, it was the home side who went ahead as a result of a blunder by Cristian Panucci.

Panucci failed to cut out a cross, allowing Antonio Di Natale a free header which was despatched past Brazilian goalkeeper Alexander Doni, who exchanged harsh words with his errant team mate.

Totti had an early opportunity to level matters from Rodrigo Taddei's cross but lofted the ball high over the bar. Totti felt that the referee had got in his way but there was no sympathy from the official, who booked him for his protests.

As Roma began to take command full-back Cicinho hit the woodwork but Udinese threatened when Di Natale fired in a shot which was blocked by Philippe Mexes.

After 64 minutes Roma equalized when Mirko Vucinic controlled a lobbed pass from David Pizarro and hammered home.

Six minutes later the visitors went in front with a curling drive from Taddei and in the final minute Ludovic Giuly converted a pass from Matteo Brighi to make it 3-1.

Sampdoria faltered in their bid for Champions League football next season by losing 1-0 at lowly Reggina, who hauled themselves off the bottom of the table. E-mail to a friend E-mail to a friend
