WARSAW, Poland (AP) -- Poland coach Leo Beenhakker named Brazilian-born Roger Guerreiro in his 26-man preliminary squad for the European Championship.

Polish President Lech Kaczynski hands citizenship papers to Brazilian-born footballer Roger Guerreiro.

Guerreiro, a midfielder for Legia Warsaw, received Polish citizenship last month and the required go-ahead from FIFA last week, paving the way for him to play for Poland at the June tournament in Austria and Switzerland.

Beenhakker also included Red Star Belgrade's Grzegorz Bronowicki, despite the defender having had arthoscopic surgery on his knee in late April.

The coach said he met with Bronowicki and doctors on Tuesday, and that he should be ready to join the team when its training camp starts May 19 in Germany.

The absence of veteran defender Arkadiusz Radomski, who sat out most of last year with an injury, and the inclusion of 21-year-old Michal Pazdan of Polish side Gornik Zabrze provided the only surprises in the preliminary squad.

Up front, Beenhakker picked Maciej Zurawski and Racing Santander's Euzebiusz Smolarek, while Jakub Blaszczykowski, Mariusz Lewandowski and Jacek Krzynowek anchor the midfield as they did in qualifying.

Poland play warm-up games against Albania and Macedonia in late May before Beenhakker announces his final squad for the tournament on May 28.

Poland, appearing in their first European Championship, then host Denmark in a final warmup match before the tournament where they are in Group B along with Germany, Croatia and co-hosts Austria.
