DUBLIN, Ireland (AP) -- Giovanni Trapattoni has named six uncapped players in his first squad since becoming Ireland coach, for friendlies against Serbia and Colombia later this month.
West Bromwich keeper Kiely is recalled by Ireland for the first time in five years in Trapattoni's first squad.
And goalkeeper Dean Kiely is recalled for the first time in five years after the 37-year-old played a leading role in West Bromwich Albion's promotion back to the Premier League.
Kiely has played eight times for Ireland, but not since he retired from international soccer in 2003 after Ireland failed to qualify for Euro 2004. Kiely came out of international retirement earlier this year and this is his first call-up.
Celtic's Darren O'Dea, Sean Scannell of Crystal Palace, Queens Park Rangers' Damien Delaney, Owen Garvan of Ipswich, Blackpool's Wes Hoolahan and Glenn Whelan of Stoke are all hoping to win their first caps.
Players missing from the squad because of injury include Shay Given, Lee Carsley, Kevin Kilbane, Steven Reid, Darron Gibson and Joey O'Brien.
Trapattoni has also spoken to Manchester City's Stephen Ireland, Liverpool's Steve Finnan and Bolton's Andy O'Brien, hoping to persuade them to come out of international retirement.
"Any player who is not in this squad is still in my thoughts," the Italian said. "Some players who were not in the preliminary squad are in this squad because they have impressed and are playing in positions where we had vacancies.
"We will continue to monitor every Irish player from the start of next season and if they impress they will be brought into the squad."
He will take most of the squad to a training camp in Portugal next week before the games against Serbia at Dublin's Croke Park on May 24 and Colombia at Fulham's Craven Cottage on May 29.
"The next two weeks are important," Trapattoni said. "It is my first opportunity to work with the players and I am looking forward to it. We will have two training games in Portugal and the games against Serbia and Colombia, so I will get to see all the players playing."
