(CNN) -- Defending Libertadores Cup champions Boca Juniors are facing a battle to avoid elimination from this year's competition after being held to a 2-2 home draw by Mexican side Atlas.

Boca players react with dismay as they were held to a shock home draw by Atlas.
Jorge Torres scored an 88th-minute equalizer to stun Boca and give his side the advantage heading into next week's return in Guadalajara.
His header stunned a crowd of 42,000 at Velez Sarsfield's stadium in Buenos Aires, employed by Boca after they were barred from using their home La Bombonera stadium after a linesman was hit by debris in a second-round match against Cruzeiro.
Atlas took the lead through a header by Omar Flores in the sixth minute.
Boca equalized in the 36th after an own-goal by Hugo Ayala and took the lead with 20 minutes remaining as Julio Cesar Caceres scored what looked to be the winner.
But then came the late Torres effort as he capitalized on an error by Boca goalkeeper Mauricio Caranta, who was out of position for the corner kick.
The winners of the quarterfinal tie look set to face Sao Paolo who beat Fluminense 1-0 in an all-Brazilian encounter.
On loan Inter Milan striker Adriano scored the winning goal to continue his excellent form for Sao Paulo, who will defend the lead in the the second-leg match in Rio de Janeiro next week.
Adriano made his presence felt after just four minutes, taking a pass from striker Dagoberto and forcing a fine save from Fluminense goalkeeper Fernando Henrique, who deflected his shot wide with his leg for a corner kick.
In the 20th minute, Dagoberto was also involved as he set up Adriano for his fifth goal of this season's Libertadores Cup.
