(CNN) -- Arsenal striker Eduardo da Silva expects to be playing again as early as July after reporting excellent progress in his recovery from a broken leg.

Eduardo is carried off the pitch after suffering his horrific injury against Birmingham in February.
It was feared the Croatia international could be out for more than a year after suffering a double compound fracture of the left leg in a tackle from Birmingham's Martin Taylor in February.
But the 25-year-old, who has been recovering at a clinic in Rio de Janeiro since April, is remarkably now hoping to return next season.
The Brazil-born player told Croatia's Sportske Novosti: "I am returning to Europe from Brazil at the beginning of August, perhaps even by the end of July.
"Doctors tell me by then I will be fully recovered and able to play football again. I hope so too. I'm feeling well and my rehabilitation is going better than I would ever have hoped," he added.
