(CNN) -- Thousands of fans turned up at the San Siro as AC Milan unveiled new signing Ronaldinho, following the completion of his 21 million euros ($33.6 million) move from Barcelona.

Ronaldinho shows off his skills in his new kit after completing his move to Milan from Barcelona.

The Brazilian was greeted by around 30,000 fans, who had flocked to see their new hero appear in a black and red shirt for the first time.

"I can confirm I desperately wanted to play for Milan. Many things have happened, but in the end I am a Rossonero player," the 28-year-old Ronaldinho told his captive audience.

"I'm happy to be here and I repeat, I hope to make the Milan crowd happy," added Ronaldinho, who will join compatriots Kaka and teenage prodigy Alexandre Pato at the San Siro.

Milan finished a dismal fifth in Serie A last season, meaning they missed out on this season's Champions League, but this had no bearing on Ronaldinho's decision to leave Spain for Italy.

"I want to take this club forward again. I feel I can go back to being happy and to reaching new personal and team objectives. I had great times at Barcelona but after a while the titles stopped coming. I was having disappointments and displeasure -- and the time came to part ways."

Ronaldinho scored 91 goals in 200 appearances in five seasons at Barcelona, and helped lead the club to consecutive Spanish league titles in 2005 and '06, as well as the Champions League in 2006.

Milan will pay an additional $6.4 million if Ronaldinho helps them secure a place in the 2009-10 Champions League.

The final transfer amount was considerably less than the 32 million euros that Barcelona said Premier League club Manchester City had offered for the player.
