(CNN) -- Former Bosnia captain Sergei Barbarez, who has played more games in the German Bundesliga than any other foreign player, has announced his retirement.

The former captain of Bosnia spent the whole of his senior career playing in the German Bundesliga.
He told the Hamburger Morgenpost newspaper that he wished to concentrate on activities outside the game.
"It is finished for me," he said.
Barbarez spent all his senior career in Germany, making 330 appearances, starting at second division Hanover, then having spells at Hansa Rostock, Dortmund, Hamburg and Leverkusen.
He notched 95 goals, 22 when he was the Bundesliga's top scorer in the 2000-2001 season.
