NYON, Switzerland (AP) -- UEFA Cup champions Zenit St. Petersburg have been fined $58,000 by UEFA for racist behavior by their supporters.

Zenit supporters fight to get a touch of the UEFA Cup trophy after last season's 2-0 victory over Rangers.

The fine was handed down following racist chants directed at Marseille players during a UEFA Cup match against the French side in Russia last March.

Zenit supporters also broke UEFA rules by unveiling a political banner and setting off fireworks inside the stadium.

The Russian champions won the UEFA Cup in May, beating Scottish side Rangers 2-0 in the final in Manchester.

UEFA are still considering further charges against Zenit after some of their supporters invaded the pitch at the City of Manchester Stadium at the end of that match.
