(CNN) -- Paris-Saint Germain's new signing Guillaume Hoarau scored his first goal as they beat title contenders Bordeaux 1-0 at the Parc des Princes in the big Saturday night game in the French league.
The powerful striker, who joined from Le Havre, took advantage of a defensive error to net the crucial goal seven minutes into the second-half with a fine finish.
The strike kick-starts PSG's season to make up for the disappointment of their 1-0 defeat at Monaco last weekend.
Bordeaux manager Laurent Blanc will be disappointed his side didn't make more of their territorial advantage.
They almost opened the scoring in the 27th minute when Brazil international midfielder Fernando forced an excellent save from PSG goalkeeper Mickael Landreau with a stunning long-range drive.
After falling behind Blanc's men poured forward and forced a fine save by Landreau from Fernando Cavenaghi.
In other games on Saturday Monaco playmaker Camel Meriem scored with a header to help them draw with Nantes 1-1 and stay unbeaten this term.
Meriem connected with a cross from Croatia midfielder Jerko Lerko in the 5th minute.
But Romanian forward Claudiu Keseru equalized for Nantes in the 66th, diverting an off-target lob from Croatia international Ivan Klasnic.
Monaco have four points from two matches.
Defending champions Lyon plays at Lorient on Sunday while Marseille take on Auxerre.
