(CNN) -- Chelsea are to consider whether to appeal against John Terry's red card, which he was shown in controversial circumstances 13 minutes from the end of their 3-1 Premier League win at Manchester City on Saturday.

Terry was sent off by referee Mark Halsey when he brought down City's Jo just inside the Chelsea half. Chelsea defender Ricardo Carvalho was still between Jo and goalkeeper Petr Cech. but a few yards to one side.
The dismissal will keep Terry out of Chelsea's big clash with Manchester United next Sunday if it is not overturned.
Chelsea coach Luis Felipe Scolari said he would discuss the issue with the Chelsea hierarchy before a decision is made.
"I would need to see it again on TV before I could really speak about it," said the former Portugal national coach.
"I let the referee make decisions but I will speak to the players and the board because I don't have any idea what happened."
Even Manchester City manager Mark Hughes said: "I think it was harsh, but the referee was a little bit erratic."
City's new Brazilian signing Robinho had made a great start to his debut against the club he had been expected to join, when he curled in a 13th minute free kick to put them in front.
Scolari showed that he held no grudge against his fellow countryman for joining City rather than Chelsea.
"I have wished him all the best at Manchester City because I like him and he is my friend," said Scolari, who embraced Robinho when they met just before kick-off. "
Scolari said that German midfielder Michael Ballack, who has been out with a foot injury, will return for the Champions League game against Bordeaux on Tuesday.
"He will play on Tuesday but I do not know whether it will be for 45 minutes, 60 or 70," he said. "The problem is they all want to play all the time because they have so much confidence."
