(CNN) -- Teenage striker Bojan Krkic scored twice as Barcelona crushed Basel 5-0 in Switzerland to strengthen their position at the top of Champions League Group C with a maximum nine points from their three matches.

Xavi Hernandez (No.6) is congratulated after scoring his goal in Barcelona's 5-0 rout of Basel.

With Andres Iniesta, Samuel Eto'o and Thierry Henry all missing from the starting line-up the 18-year-old led the attack -- and he did not disappoint in a comprehensive victory for the Catalan giants.

Argentine magician Lionel Messi opened the scoring in just the fourth minute when he beat the Basel offside trap to collect a superb cross from Daniel Alves and knock the ball past compatriot Franco Costanzo in the Swiss goal.

Barely 10 minutes later, Xavi Hernandez lobbed a ball across the Basel defense to Sergi Busquets at the far post and the Spanish under-21 international slotted home to make it 2-0.

Barca went 3-0 up in the 22nd minute when Messi played a ball to the feet of Bojan, who slotted home from the edge of the penalty area.

Don't Miss

Bojan doubled his tally at the start of the second half from a superb counter-attack and Xavi Hernandez made it five just two minutes later.

Meanwhile, in the group's other match, Brazilian Liedson scored a second-half goal to lead Sporting Lisbon to a superb 1-0 win at Shakhtar Donetsk.

Liedson, back from being sidelined for five months with a knee injury, netted in the 76th minute from Derlei's backheel pass in the box.

The victory lifts Sporting to second place in the group with six points, while Ukrainian side Shakhtar are now third on three points.

It was Shakhtar's second straight home defeat after losing 2-1 to Barcelona two weeks ago.
