(CNN) -- Joe Jordan has left Portsmouth as first team coach to join Harry Redknapp's backroom staff at Premier League rivals Tottenham.

Jordan (right) has left Portsmouth to team-up again with Harry Redknapp (center) at Tottenham.

The 56-year-old Scot spent four years at Fratton Park -- during which time he briefly took charge of the first team on a caretaker basis.

After the appointment of assistant manager Tony Adams as Redknapp`s replacement, Jordan has departed -- and is close to joining Tottenham.

Adams, who has already spoken to former Arsenal team-mate Martin Keown and is reported to have also been in contact with another ex-Gunner Dennis Bergkamp, is expected to unveil his own coaching team next week.

Redknapp, meanwhile, has already brought in Kevin Bond as a coach, with Tim Sherwood also drafted in to work with the first-team squad. Les Ferdinand is also wanted by Redknapp to work with his strikers on a part-time basis.

Jordan would provide experience on the coaching staff while young British coaching talent is nurtured at the club. "There is loads of young, British talent out there who have finished playing and get lost to the game," Redknapp said.

"We need to get these boys involved because they have great football brains. If we're going to start producing top coaches, then we need to start getting some of these guys involved," he added.
