(CNN) -- New Argentina coach Diego Maradona has left Boca Juniors striker Juan Roman Riquelme out of his first squad, for the friendly against Scotland in Glasgow on November 19.
Riquelme has been left out of the Argentina squad because he is needed by his club Boca Juniors.
Riquelme had been at the center of a club versus country dilemma, with Boca arguing that the striker was a key part of their plans as they vied with San Lorenzo for the Argentinian league title.
Also not featuring in Maradona's squad is Barcelona's Lionel Messi following an agreement brokered between the Argentinian Football Federation and the Spanish giants to allow the striker to miss the Scotland game and also a February 11 friendly against France.
However, defenders Emiliano Papa and Cristian Villagra, of Velez Sarsfield and Independiente respectively, and River Plate midfielder Daniel Montenegro have all been called up.
Argentina squad:
Goalkeepers: Juan Pablo Carrizo (Lazio), Sergio Romero (AZ Alkmaar).
Defenders: Javier Zanetti (Inter), Nicolas Burdisso (Inter), Martin Demichelis (Bayern Munich), Daniel Diaz (Getafe), Gabriel Heinze (Real Madrid), Fabricio Coloccini (Newcastle), Emilano Papa (Velez Sarsfield), Cristian Villagra (River Plate).
Midfielders: Javier Mascherano (Liverpool), Maximiliano Rodriguez (Atletico Madrid), Fernando Gago (Real Madrid), Jonas Gutierrez (Newcastle), Luis Gonzalez (Porto), Jose Sosa (Bayern Munich), Daniel Montenegro (Independiente).
Forwards: Sergio Aguero (Atletico Madrid), Carlos Tevez (Manchester United), Lisandro Lopez (Porto), Ezequiel Lavezzi (Napoli), German Denis (Napoli).
