(CNN) -- Goalkeeper Brian Jensen was the Burnley hero as Premier League leaders Chelsea crashed out of the Carling Cup 5-4 on penalties at Stamford Bridge.
Ade Akinbiyi celebrates his goal as Burnley shocked league leaders Chelsea 5-4 on penalties.
Jensen saved from captain Wayne Bridge and John Obi Mikel to put the Championship side into the quarterfinals with a shoot-out win following a 1-1 draw in extra-time.
Returning striker Didier Drogba put Chelsea in front in the 27th minute with a superb solo goal but Burnley substitute Ade Akinbiyi equalised with 20 minutes remaining.
Both sides ended the game with 10 men after Burnley's Steve Caldwell was sent off for a second bookable offence late on, while Franco Di Santo was forced off injured with all Chelsea's substitutes already used.
But Jensen sparked scenes of celebration when he saved Mikel's sudden-death spot-kick to put the second-tier side into the last eight of the competition.
New manager Harry Redknapp's magic touch continued as holders Tottenham defeated an under-strength Liverpool 4-2 at White Hart Lane to secure their place in the quarterfinals.
Roman Pavlyuchenko and Fraizer Campbell scored two goals each for in-form Spurs, who won the trophy in February under former manager Juande Ramos.
Damien Plessis and Sami Hyypia netted for Liverpool before Spurs goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes was carried off with a head injury with 20 minutes remaining.
The victory, Tottenham's second over Liverpool this month, makes it five wins and a draw from six games since Redknapp took over from Ramos.
The home side took a seventh minute lead when Campbell's low cross from the left was met firmly by Russian international Pavlyuchenko -- whose powerful finish went through goalkeeper Diego Cavalieri's legs.
Campbell grabbed his first in the 42nd minute after Jamie O'Hara chipped a ball forward. Cavalieri and defender Andrea Dossena got in the way of each other, leaving an open goal for the striker -- who is on-loan from Manchester United.
Then, on the stroke of half-time, Campbell headed home an Aaron Lennon cross to give Tottenham a 3-0 cushion after 45 minutes.
Liverpool were given hope when Plessis headed home Ryan Babel's corner from the left three minutes after the restart -- but Pavlyuchenko replied immediately, restoring the three-goal cushion when he tapped in Didier Zokora's cross.
Hyypia headed in from another corner to make it 4-2 before Gomes required lengthy treatment after Phillip Degen caught him in the head as both players went for the ball.
Play was held up for eight minutes as the Brazilian was carried off on a stretcher in a neck brace, although the injury looked worse than it was and he did not need to go to hospital.
Meanwhile, Paraguayan striker Roque Santa Cruz scored within two minutes of coming off the substitutes' bench as Blackburn won 2-1 at Sunderland to secure their last eight place.
Santa Cruz, on his return from injury, broke the deadlock in the 65th minute when heading home Martin Olssson's cross.
The visitors doubled their lead five minutes later when goalkeeper Marton Fulop defelcted Matt Derbyshire's cross onto the knee of defender Phil Bardsley -- who could do nothing but watch the ball cannon into his own net.
Kenwyne Jones pulled a goal back with his a strike from outside the box, his first goal of an injury-interrupted season, but Blackburn held on to register their first victory in seven matches.
