(CNN) -- Dutch pacesetters AZ Alkmaar are weighing-up a move for Blackburn Rovers defender Andre Ooijer, but are wary of upsetting the balance of a squad which finished the first half of the season top of the Eredivisie table.

Dutch international defender Ooijer has been a regular for Blackburn Rovers this season.
Netherlands international defender Ooijer, 34, has been a regular for Blackburn in the Premier League this season, but AZ believe he could be tempted by a return to his homeland.
However, AZ technical director Marcel Brands admitted they would first need to work out how he would fit into the squad before seeking a deal.
"From a footballing perspective we would like to sign him," Brands told Voetbal International.

"But the problem is that you don't sign Andre for the bench, so then you must put another player on the bench. Maybe that would result in disruption rather than calm."
Ooijer, who starred for the Dutch during the finals of Euro 2008, is out of contract at the end of the season and has already hinted at a return home when his deal expires.
