(CNN) -- European Ryder Cup captain Nick Faldo has cast a major doubt over Luke Donald's participation in the match against the United States at Valhalla in September.

Donald tees off in this year's U.S. Open but was forced to pull out through injury.
The consistent Englishman has played in Europe's last two record victories, winning three matches in the K Club triumph in 2006, but a wrist injury has wrecked his season.
Donald has not played since the U.S. Open and will also miss the British Open at Royal Birkdale this week.
Faldo admits Donald is likely to need one of his two wild cards to make the 12-man team.
"He would need to be a pick and to pick a man who is injured would be a major story," Faldo told BBC Radio on Monday.
"I need to talk to him in a month's time to get an honest opinion."
Donald, who has slipped outside the automatic qualification places, has strained tendons in his left wrist and a partial dislocation, but has put off surgery.
"He would need a very quick recovery to get to the PGA Championship and to be able and play for a couple of weeks.
"He is a good balanced guy who would give me a honest opinion.
"He will be missed, but we will make up a 12-man team and will be all right," added Faldo who is facing a selection power for his wildcard picks.
Reigning British Open champion Padraig Harrngton is outside of the automatic places going into his title defense, while Ryder Cup stalwart Colin Montgomerie is also struggling to make the team by right.
