HAVANA, Cuba (CNN) -- Philip B. Agee, the former CIA agent who broke with the agency 40 years ago and then published a book about it, has died in Havana, Cuba's state-run newspaper Granma reported Wednesday.
Agee died Monday night at age 72, the paper reported.
"In 1974, he published his book ... and since then he dedicated himself to denouncing the terrorist, destabilizing and subversive activities of the government of the USA against progressive governments, people and revolutionaries in Latin America and the Caribbean," the newspaper said.
"He stood out for his solidarity with Cuba, Nicaragua, Grenada and Venezuela among others. Philip Agee was a loyal friend of Cuba and a fervent defender in the struggle of the people for a better world."
In addition to his 1975 "Inside the Company: CIA Diary," Agee wrote two other books about the agency. His 1987 autobiography was called "On the Run." E-mail to a friend ![]()
