KATHMANDU, Nepal (CNN) -- At least seven people were killed and 20 injured in southern Nepal on Friday when a bomb exploded inside a passenger bus, police told CNN.
The bus was on a highway in Bara district, about 130 kilometers, or 80 miles, south of Kathmandu, where ethnic Madhesi groups, armed and unarmed, have been demanding representation in the state government apparatus, as well as autonomy.
The bomb caused a fire, and four of the injured are in critical condition. It is not known who is behind the blast.
"The injured have said that a bomb exploded inside the bus," said senior police officer Saurav Rana said on the phone from Birgunj, near the Nepal-India border. E-mail to a friend ![]()
