BANGKOK, Thailand (CNN) -- An airliner flying from Malaysia to Bangladesh made an unscheduled landing Tuesday after a knife-wielding man attacked other passengers, a Thai immigration official said.

The GMG Airlines flight was on its way from Kaula Lumpur, Malaysia to Dhaka, Bangladesh when the pilot landed about 10 a.m. at Don Muang International Airport in Bangkok, Thailand, said Lt. Col. Chatchawarn SuksomjitThai, chief of Thailand's immigration bureau.

Passengers and crew members were able to calm the man, who is from Bangladesh, he said. The attacker and several passengers were treated for minor injuries, he said.

Airport police detained the man, and doctors were watching him to determine his mental condition.

It was not known when the flight would resume its journey to Bangladesh. E-mail to a friend E-mail to a friend
