Villagers who discovered a truck abandoned by its driver in the sweltering heat found evidence of the brutal cost of human trafficking: 121 illegal immigrants from Myanmar jammed inside, almost half of them dead.
Police were searching Thursday for the driver and clues to who arranged the ill-fated journey by the desperate jobseekers headed to the booming Thai resort island of Phuket.
Officials said 54 people died, two were hospitalized and the remaining 65 were in police custody.
