(CNN) -- True or False: Activated charcoal is the best antidote for poison known to man.

The answer is: TRUE

Activated charcoal could save your life. It was famously demonstrated in 1813 by French chemist Michel Bertrand, who swallowed 150 times the lethal dosage of arsenic trioxide (one teaspoon) -- and survived. He had immediately consumed a "liberal amount of charcoal" following the arsenic and it saved his life.

Activated charcoal is known as a "super absorber" of poison and today it is the first-line treatment in the majority of poisoning cases.
