ISTANBUL, Turkey (CNN) -- A bomb placed in a car exploded in western Turkey Thursday just as two buses carrying police officers and soldiers were passing by.
The blast wounded at least 16 people, included several police and military passengers on the bus, government officials and Turkish media said.
The blast in the western province of Izmir is the second one in the country since Tuesday. The province's government labeled it a terrorist act.
"No one was killed in the explosion, yet it is a sad incident," said provincial Governor Cahit Kirac. "We condemn terrorism one more time."
Kirac said explosives placed in the parked car were detonated by remote-control while the buses were passing by.
No one claimed immediate responsibility for the attack.
Turkey has been rocked by bombings, many of which are blamed on Kurdish rebels. The rebels have waged a decades-long battle for an autonomous Kurdish region in Turkey's southeast.
On Tuesday, an explosion ripped through a vehicle in the southern Turkish city of Mersin, wounding six police officers.
Izmir, itself, has been the site of several deadly bombings.
In May 2007, a bomb left on a bicycle exploded in a market in May 2007 and killed one. And in October, another person was killed in an explosion in a shopping area.
