NEW DELHI, India (CNN) -- A bus crashed into a roadside tent in eastern India Thursday, killing 14 people.

The bus driver apparently lost control while rounding a curve on the road and drove into the tent, where people were watching television, said Vijay Kumar, the magistrate of the district where the wreck occurred.

The crash took place in the village of Tandaspur in the state of Bihar. The village is about 124 miles (200 km) from the state's capital, Patna.

Twelve villagers died at the scene. Two others died on the way to the hospital, Kumar said.

The bus driver ran away.

Massive flooding this month killed at least 66 people and displaced more than half a million in Bihar.

CNN's Bharati Naik contributed to this report.
