(CNN) -- A magnitude 7.0 earthquake struck off the Kamchatka Peninsula in Russia's far east Monday evening, seismologists reported, but there was no immediate report of damage in the remote area.
The quake's epicenter was in the Sea of Okhotsk, about 315 km (195 miles) west-northwest of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy and more than 6,500 km (4,000 miles) northeast of Moscow, the U.S. Geological Survey reported. It struck shortly after 8 p.m. (4 a.m. ET).
No tsunami warnings were issued as a result of the temblor, according to the U.S.-based Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.
