(CNN) -- Six men were run over by a train and killed while walking home from a nightclub in northern Ukraine, according to Russian reports.
The men, aged from 17 to 20. were crossing rail tracks "in the early hours" Sunday when a train hit them, the Novosti news agency said.
The conductor gave a signal and tried to stop but could not do so, Novosti said.
The men were walking from a club in the village of Ivachkovo to nearby Zdovbytsya when the train hit them, according to the Interfax news agency.
Another young man who was with the group escaped injury, The Associated Press reported.
They had apparently wanted to take a short cut and were crossing the railroad tracks in an unauthorized area when the accident occurred. E-mail to a friend ![]()
