World leaders have made "extraordinary" commitments to short-term food crisis solutions but more work is needed on long-term solutions, the head of the United Nations food agency said Thursday.
Countries and delegations pledged more than $1 billion in food aid to meet emergency needs, said Josette Sheeran, executive director of the World Food Programme.
She was speaking at the end of a three-day U.N.-organized summit in Rome, Italy, to tackle the global food crisis.
