LONDON, England (CNN) -- British police have declined to comment on reports that bullet cartridges and pools of blood have been found at the fire-ravaged country estate of a missing millionaire and his family.

Christopher Foster, his wife Jill and their 15-year-old daughter Kirstie were last seen on Monday at a friend's barbecue.

The fire started early Tuesday morning, destroying a stable block and garage and badly damaging their house near Oswestry, Shropshire.

Police have been unable to search the house for evidence because it is too unsafe.

However, The Sun tabloid newspaper reported Thursday that it appeared the trio had been shot dead before a series of fires were started.

The Daily Mail said "fears were rising that all three might have been shot dead and the house then set on fire."

However, police declined to discuss the allegations.

The British Press Association said West Mercia Constabulary had refused to comment on the reports that bullet cartridges and pools of blood were found in the property's courtyard.

"There is a lot of speculation going on. When we are able to we will issue facts.

"We are not able to go into the building so we do not know what, if anything, is inside. We are not making any comment on speculation," a police spokesman told PA.
