GAZA CITY (CNN) -- An Israeli airstrike killed a wanted Palestinian militant in Beit Hanoun, Israel Defense Forces and Palestinian sources said Monday.

Ibrahim Abu Alba of the military wing of the Palestinian Democratic Front was wanted by Israel, the Palestinian sources said. The attack was carried out by a drone, they said.

Israel Defense Forces said Alba was the head of the Democratic Front in northern Gaza and was involved in attempts to infiltrate Israel and launch attacks on Israeli targets.

In a written statement, Israel Defense Forces said Alba was involved in an infiltration of Netiv Ha'asara on August 25 in which three Israeli soldiers were slightly wounded when they came upon the infiltrators, who were wearing uniforms and carrying explosive devices. The two infiltrators were killed, Israel Defense Forces said.

Israel Defense Forces also said Alba was involved in launching rockets into Israel and had recently been "planning another terror attack." E-mail to a friend E-mail to a friend
