JERUSALEM (CNN) -- Palestinian militants fired eight rockets into Israel early Saturday from Gaza, the Israeli military said.

Three of the rockets landed in the border city of Sderot, causing damage to three buildings but no injuries, the military said.

A mortar attack from Gaza on Friday killed an Israeli man in his yard in southern Israel and wounded three others, according to Israel Defense Forces.

Israel launched two attacks on Hamas outposts in southern Gaza following the man's death and killed five Hamas militants -- two in Rafah and three in Khan Younis, Palestinian security sources said.

The Israeli man's death was the first by mortar since Israel's 2005 disengagement from Gaza. Other deaths have been caused by rocket fire.

There has been a steady increase in rocket and mortar launchings from Gaza since Hamas took over in June 2007. There have been approximately 2,000 launches from Gaza since the start of 2008, about the same number as were launched in all of 2007.
