JERUSALEM (CNN) -- Israel has confirmed that its troops killed three Palestinian militants it says were trying to plant explosives in southern Gaza on Monday.
A military spokeswoman said that soldiers found explosives and other weapons next to the bodies, near the Sufa crossing.
She added that Israeli forces then launched an air strike on militants in the area, wounding three.
The crossing is one of several that Israel uses to deliver goods into Gaza. After the militant Islamist group Hamas took over Gaza last year, Israel closed all crossings. It now allows only humanitarian aid and Palestinians with serious medical needs to cross.
Hamas said Monday that said all six militants were its members.
