BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- Suicide bombers detonated a car bomb and an explosive vest at a police checkpoint in the town of al-Jazira on Saturday, killing eight people, four of them police officers, an Interior Ministry official said.

Seven police officers were among the 17 wounded in the blasts, the official said. Al-Jazira is about nine miles east of Ramadi in Sunni-dominated Anbar province.

The official said a suicide bomber detonated a vest at the checkpoint. Minutes later, as police converged on the scene, a suicide car bomb exploded, targeting police who were helping those injured in the first attack, the official said.

Also Saturday, a roadside bomb exploded near an Iraqi police patrol in the Qahira neighborhood of Baghdad, killing one person and wounding seven others, the ministry said. One of the wounded was a police officer.
