(CNN) -- Israel has dropped 20 names from a list of Palestinian prisoners set for release this week, the Israeli government announced Sunday, bringing the number down to 230.
The government said a week ago it would release 250 prisoners.
The Ministerial Prisoner Release Committee selected 230 prisoners "without blood on their hands" for release in honor of Eid al-Adha, the Muslim festival marking the end of the hajj, the annual pilgrimage to Mecca.
The prisoners are associated with the secular nationalist Fatah movement of Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, not with Hamas, the religious movement.
"The list of prisoners was prepared by professional elements in the Justice Ministry and the security establishment," according to a statement released by the committee.
The government described the move as a "gesture to the Palestinian Authority."
The release is planned for Tuesday.
